WHY YOU SHOULD EAT ALMONDS WITHOUT THE SKIN

Yogi Cameron: Hi everyone, this is Yogi Cameron.

Yogini Jaima: And I'm Yogini Jaima.

Yogi Cameron: And this is Inspire Living. Now we're going to take you through why you should be eating almonds and how you should be eating them. Now if you know something about Ayurveda and the elements, you always hear us talk about vata, pitta, and kapha, and air element, fire element, and the earth element. Now we are of all of these elements, and foods have the same elements within them. So they're a little bit more fiery, a little bit more earthy, or a little bit more airy.

Yogi Cameron: Now almonds happen to have a little bit more earth in them, that's why they're a little denser and we eat less of them. So they're great for people with a little bit more vata and pitta, rather than kapha. Doesn't mean if you're heavier, you don't eat them, you just eat them in a smaller quantity. And people who need a little bit more roughage and a little bit more bulk, they would eat more of them.

Yogi Cameron: And then, they're packed with nutrients, magnesium, iron, vitamin E, and protein, and all of those good things. So they're kind of like a super food in themselves

Yogini Jaima: In India, especially in the villages where homes are still practicing Ayurveda in these ancient, natural, and medicinal home remedies, you'll always see in the morning with breakfast, that they soak some almonds and they're having it like their vitamins. So I've adopted that, and now I soak almonds and take them every morning, and I've really felt a difference just immediately in my morning energy level.

Yogini Jaima: It's quite easy. All you have to do is soak almonds overnight. If you forget to soak them, just using boiling water in the morning and soak the almonds. In about half an hour, they'll be ready to peel. And why do we want to peel them? 'Cause the skin of an almond contains tannin, which will inhibit the nutrient absorption. These nuts are like a little ... oop.

Yogi Cameron: Oh, nice one. Do another one.

Yogini Jaima: They're a little super food, so we want to be able to absorb all of those nutrients. So it's very easy as you can see. All you have to do is peel it off like that, and there you go.

Yogi Cameron: Okay, and how many of these should we be eating?

Yogini Jaima: About five. I take five every morning, and it's absolutely perfect.

Yogi Cameron: Yeah.

Yogini Jaima: You want to try one?

Yogi Cameron: Yeah, and their skin is hard to digest anyway, so you wouldn't want to eat it.

Yogini Jaima: I put them on top of oatmeal. You can eat them plain, or put them on top of some oatmeal or any breakfast cereals that you're having.

Yogi Cameron: Yeah, and the water soaked into them overnight, so it's become much easier to digest as well than when they're raw. Yeah, beautiful.

Yogini Jaima: I love them. Enjoy them.
